Located at Hacienda San Jose del Refugio, in 1870, Casa Herradura was formed. This is the last tequila-producing Hacienda in the world. They pride themselves on creating some of the most exquisite tequilas out there, plus they were also the ones who changed the world of tequila forever by inventing the first reposado and extra añejo. Currently, they reside in a small town in the heart of Mexico called Amatitàn.

So, what really makes a Hacienda authentic? It needs to have been built in the 18th or 19th century and needs to have a land extension, plus it needs to be self-sufficient in livestock or agriculture and have worker housing within its walls. Also, Haciendas need to have a chapel on its grounds, and it must have the main house. Casa Herradura is the source of the world’s finest tequilas, and Herradura Ultra Añejo Tequila is just one of their many wonderful drinks that keep with traditions.

Herradura Ultra Añejo Tequila is made from the Blue Agava plants that are surrounding Casa Herradura. Once they mature, the agave plants are carefully trimmed and harvested to their cores (exclusively by jimadores). The cooking process is the most critical part when creating Herradura Ultra Añejo Tequila, and what gives it that distinct taste in comparison to other tequilas.

Compared to other variants, Añejo tequilas are aged a lot longer, and because of this, they absorb the color from the barrel, together with that deep smoky flavor. Silver tequilas are the ones that are not aged at all, and thus they will remain clear; they follow the same aging process, however, they are filtered many times. Because of this, the color basically disappears, and some of that dark sugary taste as well.

This is why Herradura Ultra Añejo Tequila has no color and is bottled in its classic bottle shape, with silver aesthetics.
